Trauma

Having recently completed a Diploma in Mental Health, I’ve learned a lot more about the true nature of trauma and how it can shape a person’s life. Trauma isn’t always a singular, catastrophic event. It’s often subtle and accumulative, affecting every facet of our lives. Trauma can stem from childhood experiences, relationship dynamics, career failures, and even societal pressures.

Dr. Gabor Maté, a well-respected trauma expert, said in his book The Myth of Normal, "Trauma is not what happens to us; it’s what happens inside us." This profound insight shifts the focus from external events to internal processes. It’s not necessarily the bullying you faced or the rejection you endured; it’s the lasting impact these events have on your self-esteem, your relationships, and your decision-making.
